What is Rival?

We were sick of doomscrolling on a phone - so we created the next evolution of social media, which lives inside VR.

It is the 3D version of Tiktok/Instagram. It is where creators share, and users can explore new dimensions and content was just a swipe.

You’ve got to try it to understand it. Rival lives inside your headset, so put it on and let us know what you think!

How is Rival Different from YouTube or TikTok?

Unlike traditional platforms, Rival lives inside headsets, meaning:

• You are standing in the middle of your profile

• 3D/180/360 VR Content surrounds you from all angles

• Jump from one world to the next in one swipe

• No clutter from 2D content

Can I use Rival without a VR headset?

• The Rival APP (where audiences watch and engage with content) is only available within headsets. Accessible HERE

• The Rival STUDIO (where creators upload and manage content) is web-based and accessible on phones, laptops, or headsets. Accessible HERE

Which VR headsets is the Rival app available on?

Currently Rival is available on Meta Quest.

However, we are also working on Apple Vision Pro, Pico, and other PCVR support, so stay tuned for updates!

When is Rival launching?

Rival officially launches on Meta Quest on February 28, 2025.

For now, you can follow steps below for Early Access:

Creating VR Content

How do I create VR Gameplay? (QGO)

Meta Quest:

• Download Quest Games Optimiser HERE (contact us for a free account): TUTORIAL

• Record using QGO (Minute 3:38): TUTORIAL

• Please make sure to use the following settings on your QGO camera for optimal resolution:

  • Eye selection: 3D

  • Capture format: 2:1

  • Resolution:2880 × 1440

  • Compression Quality: 40 mbps

  • Frame Rate: 60 fps

• Make sure your camera/eyes aren’t too close to objects all the time (otherwise you’ll get dizzy)

• Keep your head relatively still while recording (shaking your head too much will also make things dizzy)

How do I render 3D Animations to VR?

You can render flat screen 3D animations to VR 180/360! FOLLOW THIS FORMAT

How do I upload content?

Upload and manage content in the web-based Creator Studio

Simply:

• Create/Login to your account

• Add a profile picture and a captivating description

• Drag and drop your video

• Sit back and let Rival’s AI handle the rest - settings, tags, and more. It even auto-creates a thumbnail, but a custom one from you will truly make your content shine!

• Contact us if you don’t have a headset to view your content in VR

How long do videos need to be?

There’s no strict limit (our content typically ranges from 5s to 15mins+), as long as it captivates the audience, we’re all for it!

That said, we’ve noticed these two types of videos tend to perform best:

• Short, engaging clips (similar to TikTok or YouTube Shorts)

• Longer videos (20s+) with audio, action, and a storyline - no 20s loops of the same thing

Converting 2D to 3D Content

What do you mean by '2D content'?

Any video on a flat screen! Rival can take regular 2D footage or vlogs and convert them into immersive 3D videos.

How does the 2D-to-3D conversion work?

Using our own advanced conversion tool, Rival adds depth effects to your 2D videos, making them feel immersive.

What videos can be uploaded for 2D-to-3D conversion?

We prioritise gameplay footage (VR or non-VR). Rival’s AI will process and convert it into 3D-compatible content.

However, any 2D video can be converted!

Make sure it’s highest quality MP4: 4K & 60 FPS

• Ideal: 4K resolution at 60 FPS for maximum VR immersion

• Minimum: 1080p at 60 FPS if 4K isn’t feasible

• Videos with still head movements convert best

• HORIZONTAL/LANDSCAPE VIDEOS ONLY

How do I convert my videos from 2D to 3D？

Upload your videos to app.rival.tech with [Needs Conversion] in the title and Rival can convert it for you! (Disclaimer: if you don't include [Needs Conversion] in the title, we might not see it!

Do I need to pay for the conversion?

Rival is offering temporary free 2D to 3D conversion for the duration of the gameplay contest!

How can I make money on Rival?

Rival offers multiple monetization options:

Does Rival pay me for uploading content?

We are a content-sharing platform, much like any social media platform. We do not purchase intellectual property (IP) or use it for commercial purposes. Do I need to edit my video twice for Rival and Youtube?

No! Rival can export a 2D version of your gameplay for YouTube, so you don’t need to record twice.

Can I share my Rival content on Twitter, Instagram, or TikTok?

Yes! You can promote your Rival profile and content across any social media platform.

Can I invite my followers to Rival?

Yes! Creators can share early access links to bring their audience to the platform before the official launch.

Will Rival have an algorithm for content discovery?

Yes! Rival prioritizes ambassador creators, meaning:

•  Ambassadors content gets promoted first

•  No distractions from non-VR content
